There is no end of activities for your family if you are vacationing in Albany during the summer. For the kids, there are tons of activities to enjoy and to fill their time. Summer camps are especially popular and your children will not want to be left out. You could also take them to the several museums in the area and they will love the animals at the zoos. Also, experience the many opportunities there are to go nature hiking. There are loads of great summer activities in Albany for you to explore.

Summer Camps
Great summer activities in Albany include thousands of camp programs that are held at various centers. Camps are recreational, developmental and educational for the kids. You will appreciate the mental, social and physical skills your child will develop in one of these programs. Kids can join a day or overnight program. Many camps provide an enriching experience where kids get to feed the animals on their farms, go on nature walks, experience horseback riding, team up to plant a garden, and learn nature-based art and craft.  If you are looking for a great summer camp program in Albany, consider checking out TSL Adventures.

Amusement Parks and Fun Centers
The summer would not be complete without visiting one of the many amusement parks in the Albany area. Take for example:
  • Enchanted Forest / Water Safari Theme Park – This is quite a fun and relaxing place set in the Adirondack Mountains. Children and the family on a whole have quite a variety of rides to choose from. The park features both the enchanted forest and a water park. Enchanted Forest depicts your favorite fairy tale stories such as the house of Sleeping Beauty, Peter’s Pumpkin, Contrary Mary’s growing garden and the Crooked House. The Water Safari attractions take you through simulated forests, dark and scary tunnels, and spit you back into the warmth of sunlight.

Nature Centers and Wildlife Parks
Nature centers add to the many great summer activities in Albany. You are able to explore over twenty nature parks and animal kingdoms in the area. Each one is different and enjoyable in its own right. You can check out:
  • Adirondack Animal Land – You’ll find a trip to this Animal Park not only educational, but also fun for the family. You’ll need the whole day to see the over 500 different kinds of animals on this property. They have even created a park just for deer. What’s more, there is a zoo petting area for kids to get close to some of the animals.
  • Beaver Camp – Besides being a camp site, Beaver camp also operates a zoo. Your kids can benefit from both experiences, sharing in a camp community and seeing the animals at the park.

Hiking
  • Albany Pine Bush - It is exhilarating to experience nature and the wild. At Albany Pine Bush kids will love to walk the sandy trails that wind through cut rocks and past a stream. It’s a great spot also to have a picnic and at the end of it all, to check out the Discovery Center.

Playgrounds
Kids won’t want to be locked down in the house all summer long. They’ll want to go outdoors and be free to play. Parents can take advantage of the many playgrounds that are created for their kids to have fun in an adventurous and exciting way. And they are free.
  • Central Park, Schenectady – Your kids can get plenty of outdoor fun in Central Park. There’s lots of equipment that your toddlers and preschoolers can ride in Tiny Tot Land. You will also find a biking and hiking trail for the hardiest of the kids. At the Rose Garden they can view lovely flowers and take as many pictures as they want.
  • The Crossings, Colonie – This is a playground you can’t resist with a wide variety of equipment for kids to use. The surface is soft and spongy to protect your little ones. But kids do not have to get high at all times because there is a huge sandbox where the little ones can build their own castle. The ground also features a bike path, duck pond, and a maze that’s so fun.

Regardless of your interests and the age range of your children, there is always something to do in the Albany area.  It's been raining, A LOT lately, but we are confident the weather will break and the outdoor activities we have mentioned will be available to all this summer.  If you have questions about summer programs, after school programs or child care options for your children in the Albany area, please reach out to TSL Adventures.
