Summer camp programs are an excellent way for children and generally for any person from any age bracket to break the monotony of your life. Doing the same thing daily can be quite de-motivating. School going children always look forward to getting out of school and attending a camp somewhere. There are different types of programs, and each benefits a child in a different way. The social benefits of children attending summer camp programs include: Development of thinking and problem-solving skills- in the current society we are living in, people will not always be there to help you out of a situation. The skills learned help the child to fit well in society as they can help themselves and even others in case of a problem.
Self-esteem- The building blocks of this important virtue are belonging, learning, sharing, and contributing. In major school settings, a child success is measured by how well they do in academic activities if a child is not bright enough he might feel as if he is not capable of achieving in life. Programs like these take out this type of mentality and introduces totally un-academic activities which the dull child might be doing very well. Self-reliance- Children have become mommy and daddy kids more than acceptable limit. If this is not controlled, the child can become irresponsible. These programs takes these kids away from their parents, and they can learn new ways of doing things without the help of their parents. They develop resilience- At the camps; the motto is to try until you make it. The spirit helps the kids to understand that success does not necessarily come at first trial. In most of the major cases, you have to try several times to achieve success. Develop long life skills- The dependency skills developed here still grow with them even when they are grownups. This is because this information is absorbed and stored in their subconscious minds. Grow more independent- They learn to do most of the things without their parent’s guidance. This is still another element among social benefits of children attending summer camp programs. Unplug from technology - It has been scientifically proved that kids who spend most of the time on the television set; and game devices portrayed lower relational skills in comparison to those who do not. Reconnect with nature- Some of the activities they do are very connected to nature, and they learn how to maintain a healthy environment. Make true friends - Making friends is one of the things almost every camper accomplishes. No one child goes in a camp with one friend and leaves with the same one friend. The diversity in friendship circles enables a child develops very strong social skills to be able to balance and relate well with all those friends who all have different characters. Exposure to new ideas - summer camps new things are taught to the children. For example; new cultural practices and dances. These greatly enhance how they relate to the society as their reasoning is diversified. Stimulates the brain - Most of the adventurous activities going on are both physically and mentally challenging. In order not to be the last in the queue; the child has almost to work the brain to emerge winner or among the winners in an exercise. These achievements greatly boost self-esteem. Creates memories- stories are made of memories, and great story tellers have high social relation skills. Since your child gets to see new things, do things in different ways, won a prize, etc. all these memories will be chained into a story, and he/she will be willing to narrate it even to the strangers. Developing academic skills – Good academic performance has a very great impact on how the child views himself/herself among the peers. Since some of these camps integrate academic learning in their programs, a child will develop a strong sense of believing in excellence, and this boosts the confidence level. Learn to work together – Working together requires social skills. Most of the summer activities are group oriented, and thus the child will learn to work together with other people on a mission to achieve something. Team building skills are paramount for an ordinary life experience. Social benefits of children attending summer camp programs are so significant that they cannot be overlooked in selecting a summer camp program for your child. I'm glad you pointed out that sending your child to a summer camp can help them form a strong and diverse circle of friends. My daughter is in elementary school and has struggled to form close friendships. I'll definitely look into our options for an overnight summer camp to help her out. 4/27/2020 01:23:51 pm
Thanks for explaining that most summer camps include group-oriented activities that help children develop social skills. My son has been having trouble making friends ever since he started the fifth-grade last year. I'll have to look for a summer camp he can attend this year now that I understand why it'd be beneficial for him! Comments are closed.
