My name is Kate Brownell, but all of my TSL friends call me Ms. Brownie! I grew up in Hoosick Falls, and as a child I enjoyed spending time on my family’s farm, playing soccer and being involved in the 4H program. I lived locally until the age of 10, when my family moved to Central Florida. While in Florida I continued to work with 4H, eventually running my own club throughout high school and college. I attended the University of Central Florida and earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, with certificates in reading, special education and English Language Learners.
After graduation I was hired at South Ocala Elementary and taught kindergarten and second-grade inclusion and was nominated as Rookie Teacher of the Year! In 2012 I moved back to New York's Capital Region to be closer to my family and started working for TSL as a summer teaching assistant at the Troy site. In the fall of that year I was offered the opportunity to direct the School Age Program in Guilderland, and I happily accepted! In 2014 I was promoted to Regional Director, and I currently direct the Guilderland School Age program at Redeemer and coordinate the TSL School Age Directors. When I’m not at TSL, I love to cook, go camping and spend time with my friends and family.
